So now that we have over-indulged in Christmas ham, pavlova, and severely delayed the whole ‘summer bod’ process, it's time to talk about those much dreaded ‘New Years resolutions.’ Resolutions seem kind of transient to me, so i’d rather think of them as habits, hopefully that way they'll actually stick. With that said, here are four habits that i'm going to work on during my twenty–first year of living, in twenty–seventeen:
One/ Write lots of words n’ stuff.
As a designer, I am often caught up in how words look, rather than what they say. This year I want to practise writing more so that I can bring a point of view to how content or copy could sound in the projects I work on. First step: actually write more than ten blog posts. I’m slowly chipping away at this one.
Two/ Get out.
If you know me, you know that my favourite place is curled up in my Peter Alexander pyjamas, with a cuppa tea, watching Netflix. Yes, I am secretly a 90 year old woman. With all of the exciting plans I have this year, a massive goal of mine is going to be to get out. Get out of the house, get out of my comfort zone, get out and explore all of the amazing things that NYC has to offer.
Three/ Ask all of the dumb questions.
I am slowly beginning to realise that as a graduate, I don’t know a lot, like, at all. Not just professionally, but in terms of life, adult–ing is a foreign concept. As a problem solver, it is in my nature to try and find a solution myself. Sometimes, though, Google doesn't have the answer. So this year, I am going to ask people all of the dumb questions, because along with an answer, I will also get an opinion, a story, a connection or a relationship – things that are often not found in a search engine .
Four/ Try this networking thing.
Like most introverts, I am kind of allergic to this word. But since I am moving to a city with twice the population of my home country, I reckon it's time to go out and meet some awesome people. Bonus points if they have some super cool job, but really I just want to make some friends.
So with that, I give you four habits I want to form in twenty–seventeen. Do you have any goals/resolutions/habits for the new year? Any design related? Let me know, i’d be keen to hear about what everyone else is doing to fuel their creativity.
