Times Square + Broadway Shows (one can not be without the other)
Getting lost in Soho / Greenwich Village / Chelsea
I just have a mild obsession with the colour of these buildings. You can't really go wrong walking either Bleecker Street, The Highline or visiting Washington Square Park.
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
Although not particularly serene like your typical botanical gardens (cue: hoards or selfie goers or girls with their Instagram boyfriends...) this place is simply beautiful, especially during cherry blossom season.
The Abundance of Concerts
As an avid listener of the alternative genre, more pompously known as 'Alt' or 'Indie' music, Auckland just really misses the mark on decent concerts for me. New York on the other hand over–delivers in this area. The Shins, Andrew McMahon, Johnny Flynn, Passenger, Coin... the list goes on. Oh, and getting to meet my favourite musician of all time was really the icing on the cake.
The food. Enough said.
In my opinion, the best view of New York can be found across the Hudson in Hoboken, New Jersey. On a sunny spring day, nothing else can compare really.
New York is an explosion of energy and creativity, so it's hard for me to narrow in on this one. For me though, the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum has to take the cake. I just really enjoyed the design–oriented exhibitions.
